ERVAND KOTCHAR, "HOMME COUCHE"
Ervand Kotchar was born Ervand Kocharian. Of Armenian descent, he was born in Georgia in 1922, which was then part of the USSR. He left Georgia for Paris, as many artists of his generation did, and soon found himself among the avant-garde artists of Paris. Quickly establishing himself, he participated in all of the major Salons. However, in 1935, after becoming embroiled in controversy over his sculptural paintings, he returned to his native land. This work represents Tiresias, the hermaphrodite seer of Greek legend. Water color on paper. 20.5" H x 29" W.
