George Nakashima was one of the most important American designers of the 20th century. He won many awards from the AIA and other prestigious organizations.
Nakashima sought out the “soul” of the wood, finding remarkable pieces of wood for his furniture. This exceptional table is Carpathian burl elm, and is on a Minguren 1 base. The actual color is much warmer than the images. The intricate marking of the burl wood are fascinating as well as beautiful, and he preserved the natural edges of the wood. The results are compelling and unique.
This table comes with the original Bill of Sale and correspondence. The name of the owner, Peggy Nittel, of Florida, is written on the bottom of the piece. The date is c 1975.
