Gilbert Poillerat was among the most original and sought-after designers specializing in wrought iron. He drew upon many inspirations, many of them historical, and interpreted them in a fresh and exciting way, utilizing his favorite elements, such as tassles, hunting bows, stars, and twisted ropes, and added the contrast of gilding to to set off the dark wrought iron.
This fabulous console is one of four designed for the salon of Mme. Gres – the famed couturier. The intricate wrought iron work is impressive, and the twisted rope and tassels add just the right touch. The marble top is a very unusual and beautiful marble. C1930’s, 35 x 51 x 22 inches.
