Jean Lurcat was a well-known French Art Deco artist, famed for the tapistries he did for Pierre Chareau’s furniture in the Maison de Verre in Paris. He did many tapestries, as well as ceramics and paintings, and there is a museum devoted to his work in France. It is signed and dated.
This gouache and pencil on paper, dated 1921, was given as a gift to his friend, the furniture designer Lucien Rollin, who created the frame for it.
