Marie Zimmermann was one of the most important American Arts and Crafts artists. While she is know primarily for her metalwork, she also produced a very few fabulous pieces of jewelry, using an intricate combination of carved stones and enamels. Her jewelry is both rare and fabulous – a bracelet belonging to us was on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 20th Century Department, and they have a necklace by her on permanent display in the 20th Century Department.
The stones are lapis, amethyst and moonstone – Unfortunately, the image does not capture the beautiful but elusive color of the moonstones. They are very fine “blue flash” moonstones, named for their full of rich, flashing blues. The pieces are 18k gold.
This rare Marie Zimmermann suite is something special for the collector of the rare and beautiful, and they are very wearable.
