Description
This is an exciting and rare piece by Van Cleef and Arpels. The design is streamlined and stylized, and the watch face is covered by a clever louvered mechanism – when closed, you can’t tell that it is a watch. Called “Shutter”, it was inspired by a limousine radiator.
Van Cleef originally made these as clasps for a very special hand bag, but there are openings in the back that allow it to be worn as a pendant. Black lacquer with deep blue finials on silver ground. It is numbered, and illustrated in Van Cleef & Arpels, by Sylvie Raulet, p312.
