Carlo Scarpa is one of the most important names in Italian glass, and his pieces are highly sought after. This is a very fine example of the “Tessuto” technique of fused polychrome canes, which was quite difficult, as the lines all have to be perfectly even. This piece is also unusual for its size – over 15 inches high.
It is signed with a three line acid stamp on the underside – Venini Murano Italia.
Literature: Carlo Scarpa Venini 1932 – 1947, Barovier, p266 for a similar example.
