Description

Alfred Janniot was one of the most important French sculptors of the 20th century. He did many important public works in Paris, and also Rockefeller Center in New York City. This is a very fine plaster proof representing Europa, daughter of the king of Phoenicia being carried off by Zeus in the form of a bull. The plaster is over an internal armature, and is the third known plaster proof.  It was a gift to famed painter Jean Dupas, who was a great friend of Janniot. C 1930.41 x 40 x 11 cm.
